HOMEWORK SCHEDULE
Review is an essential part of learning Torah. Please check your son’s folder daily for the homework worksheet.
Each Sunday, I send home a weekly homework schedule. Attached to this schedule are the kriah (reading) pages that your child should practice throughout the week. Reading practice is typically assigned for Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
On Monday and Wednesday, the homework usually consists of a Chumash-related worksheet. These worksheets focus on the prefixes, suffixes, and selected vocabulary from the Chumash currently being learned. Chumash homework is handed out on the day it is assigned.
CHUMASH REVIEW
Because Chumash is still new to the children, I do not assign Chumash review homework. In class, I give the children Chumash pages with the words and their meanings printed in a large, easy-to-read font. Prefixes and suffixes are outlined, and the children color the prefixes green and the suffixes red to reinforce their understanding. These pages are usually sent home on Friday.
SHABBOS REVIEW
On Shabbos, the kriah homework will be to read a few lines from the פּרשׁת השׁבוּע. The Chumash homework will be to review the prefixes and suffixes on the pages we colored during the week. In addition to the kriah and prefix/suffix practice, you may ask your son to say one or two of the pesukim we learned. Please use the Chumash pages to see how we translated the pesukim in class.
As I mentioned, Chumash is still new for the children. If your son doesn’t know the meaning of a word, simply tell it to him and move on.
MISSING HOMEWORK
Occasionally, the copy machine may break down, or a paper may get misplaced. However, if you notice that your son is consistently not bringing home the kriah or Chumash pages, please let me know. Please keep all Chumash papers I send home in a folder at home for future reference.
VERY IMPORTANT
A final point about homework: Homework is not a test or a quiz. Homework is certainly not intended to cause friction between parent and child. When learning with your son, you can help him, guide him, and most of all encourage him.
